Almost everyone planning to give birth at Stanton Territorial Hospital between Dec. 10 and Feb. 21 will instead be transferred to Edmonton because of “staffing challenges, particularly nursing,” said the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority. Citing a shortage of staff, especially nurses, Stanton Territorial Hospital will be transferring all planned births between Dec. 10 and Feb. 21 to Edmonton.
This is the first time the territory recorded no new cases since Nov. 4.
MLAs Katrina Nokleby and Lesa Semmler say the current obstetrics closure at Stanton Hospital could have been prevented had the health minister addressed concerns they've been highlighting for months.
Nunavut said it expects to receive doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine over the weekend and begin giving them to children in Iqaluit on Monday. A schedule for other communities will likely be released the same day.
