The Ontario Nurses’ Association says St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener needs to improve working conditions for nurses in the emergency department, and that includes hiring more staff. It comes after an independent committee looked at concerns raised by nurses.
Waterloo region officials say people in the community still have time to enjoy a two-dose summer. If people who haven't received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine got it this week, they could get a second dose before the end of August, the region says.
Ontario's optometrists have said they will withdraw services provided under OHIP, including eye exams, if the provincial government won't increase how much it pays for the services. Now, local politicians are calling for the province to negotiate before the Sept. 1 deadline.
There were 11 new COVID-19 cases reported Monday by Region of Waterloo Public Health. Hospitalizations rose by three and there were eight active outbreaks. As well, the region reports 65 per cent of people aged 12 and up have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
