Several Cree communities in northern Quebec have moved to put in place tighter restrictions amid COVID-19 outbreaks in two communities — Mistissini and Oujé-Bougoumou.
The hamlet of Fort Liard, N.W.T., was placed under a two-week containment order as of 10 p.m. on Saturday.
The positive case is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Fort Liard, a hamlet nearly 545 kilometres southwest of Yellowknife. It is related to travel outside the territory, said Dr. Kami Kandola in a news release Saturday.
The employee at Agnico Eagle’s mine near Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 8.
